Rashami Desai Criticizes Ranveer Singh, Johnny Sins Ad: TV’s Dilemma of Reach vs. Representation

Rashami Desai expressed concern about the content of the ad rather than targeting Ranveer Singh personally. She highlighted that television, despite its widespread reach, often faces demeaning content.

Actor Rashami Desai has voiced her dissatisfaction with a recent advertisement featuring Ranveer Singh and Johnny Sins promoting a men’s sexual healthcare brand. Desai criticized the ad on Instagram, labeling it as “an insult” to the television industry.

In clarification, Rashami Desai emphasized that her criticism wasn’t directed at Ranveer Singh personally. She stated, “It’s not about Ranveer Singh. I don’t want any complications happening. My words are very clear.” Desai highlighted that her concerns were specifically about the content and concept of the advertisement, rather than Singh himself.

Rashami Desai remarked, “In television, we’ve never shown such things. People always make a mockery of the small screen, but they come to TV when they need to promote (films). TV has the biggest reach, but it is also demeaned the most.

There’s no respectful balance. I felt bad because I’ve been working here.” Desai expressed her disappointment at the lack of respectful balance in the portrayal of television content despite its extensive reach.

The advertisement features Ranveer Singh and Johnny Sins portraying brothers in a traditional Hindi family drama setting. Within this setup, a joint family is depicted discussing a couple’s issues, and Singh and Sins engage in a conversation about one of the products of the brand being promoted.

Rashami Desai, who began her television career with the mythological drama series “Ravan” in 2006, has since been a prominent figure in Indian television. With notable roles in popular TV shows such as “Pari Hoon Main” (2008), “Uttaran” (2009), “Dil Se Dil Tak” (2017), and “Naagin 4” (2020), along with appearances on various reality shows, Desai has contributed significantly to the small screen. Her statement underscores the belief that television serves as a representation of Indian culture.

Asserting her reaction to the specific advertisement, the 37-year-old actress expressed, “I did start with regional films before getting into television. The name, fame, money, love, and the massive respect I got for my work has been from the TV industry.”

Adding to her stance, the “Uttaran” actor emphasized the importance of respectful representation of television, stating, “TV represents our culture in a lot of ways and hence should be respectfully represented.” Rashami Desai highlighted the significant role television plays in showcasing Indian culture, especially to international audiences. She expressed her deep respect for the medium, recognizing its influence in shaping perceptions and understanding of various aspects of Indian culture.

Desai suggests querying other actors regarding the promotion of TV beyond soap opera theatrics, indicating a broader discussion on the matter.
