Mithun Chakraborty in Hospital: ‘Quite Stable,’ Pending Investigations Before Discharge

Mithun Chakraborty is reported to be recovering well according to the hospital. He has undergone an MRI along with other medical tests as part of his treatment.

Veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty’s health has improved, and he is deemed “quite stable” according to an official quoted by news agency PTI on Sunday. The 73-year-old was admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata on Saturday due to severe chest pain.

Mithun Chakraborty’s health update indicates positive progress. According to an official from the medical facility, he is recuperating well, fully conscious, well-oriented, and active. Additionally, he has been consuming a soft diet. Before his discharge, he will undergo further investigations. The actor has already undergone an MRI and other medical tests during his stay at the hospital.

The news agency ANI shared a video on Sunday featuring Mithun Chakraborty in the hospital. In the clip, Mithun is seen sitting on his bed inside the hospital room. A doctor is heard speaking to him in Hindi, reassuring him that he is doing well, the saline drip is ongoing, and he is drinking sufficient water. Mithun responds, pointing at his feet and saying something. Additionally, West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar visited Mithun in the hospital on Sunday.

Mithun Chakraborty has been diagnosed with an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke) of the brain, according to a recent official statement from the hospital. The statement noted that the actor was admitted after experiencing weakness in his right upper and lower limbs. It reads, “Shri Mithun Chakraborty (73), National Award-winning actor, was brought to the Emergency Department of Apollo Multispeciality Hospitals, Kolkata, around 9.40 am with complaints of weakness in the right upper and lower limbs.”

The statement further mentioned, “Necessary laboratory and radiology investigations were carried out, including an MRI of the brain. He has been diagnosed with an Ischemic Cerebrovascular Accident (Stroke) of the brain. Presently, he is fully conscious, well-oriented, and has consumed a soft diet. Shri Chakraborty is being further evaluated by a team of doctors including a neuro-physician, cardiologist, and a gastroenterologist.”

Mithun Chakraborty, a renowned actor, was recently honored as a recipient of the Padma Bhushan Award in 2024. He kickstarted his career with the Mrinal Sen-directed film “Mrigayaa,” for which he earned the National Film Award for Best Actor. Throughout his illustrious career, he has appeared in numerous hit films such as “Disco Dancer,” “Agneepath,” “Ghar Ek Mandir,” “Jallad,” and “Pyaar Jhukta Nahin.”

In addition to his acting prowess, Mithun is known for his contributions to Indian cinema, spanning multiple genres and captivating audiences with his versatile performances.

Outside of his acting career, Mithun entered the political arena and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Ground on March 7, 2021.
