Shreyas Iyer, middle-order batsman for the cricket team, has reported discomfort in his back after facing more than 30 balls and pain in his groin during forward defensive shots.

He is expected to undergo further tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to assess the extent of his injuries. The team selection for the last three Tests is anticipated to be announced today.

Shreyas Iyer, an Indian middle-order batsman, may miss the final three Test matches against England due to an injury.

Shreyas Iyer has reported stiffness in his back and groin pain while playing forward defence, casting doubt on his participation in the upcoming Test matches against England. Additionally, his equipment was sent to his home in Mumbai instead of being directly transported to the venue, indicating potential uncertainty regarding his availability.

The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is expected to announce the Indian squad for the remaining matches of the five-match series on Friday.

Sources indicate that Shreyas Iyer will undergo further tests at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. Despite the setback, Iyer aims to return to competitive cricket in time for the Indian Premier League (IPL) next month. It’s worth noting that last year, Iyer had surgery for a back injury.

According to sources reported by The Indian Express, Shreyas Iyer has informed the Indian team management and medical staff that he experiences stiffness in his back after playing more than 30 balls and feels pain in his groin while playing forward defense. This issue has emerged for the first time post his surgery, so he has been advised to rest for a few weeks. He will subsequently head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for further evaluation.

If Shreyas Iyer does miss out on the last three Tests against England due to his injury, the selection committee will need to decide on his replacement. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, who missed the last Test due to injury, are likely to return for the Rajkot Test. In this situation, it remains to be seen if Rajat Patidar, who debuted in Vizag, will get another opportunity.

The selection committee delayed the team selection by a day, waiting to confirm the availability of former captain Virat Kohli.

Virat Kohli’s participation in the third Test looks doubtful due to personal reasons, but the selectors are waiting to confirm his availability for the last two matches of the series.

The rest of the squad has been instructed to assemble in Rajkot on February 11 for training, following a short break.
