Nothing Confirms Development of Phone 2a: Retains Phone 2 Design with Camera and LED Tweaks, Priced Under Rs 35,000.

Nothing has officially announced its work on the upcoming Phone 2a, indicating an imminent launch. While the exact release date remains undisclosed, the company suggests that the Phone 2a will inherit certain features from the previous Nothing Phone 2.

Nothing’s official announcement about the Phone 2a highlights its focus on delivering an optimal daily smartphone experience by prioritizing core user needs. Codenamed Aerodactyl, the Phone 2a incorporates some of the most appreciated features from the Phone 2, aiming for a clear upgrade compared to Phone 1 across various aspects. The device is crafted with Nothing’s expertise and commitment to craftsmanship.

Nothing has officially announced the upcoming launch of two new products in India – the CMF Buds and the CMF Neckband Pro. While the company has not disclosed specific details, leaks provide some insights into what to expect from these products.

The launch date for the Nothing Phone 2a has not been officially announced yet. However, it is anticipated to be a more budget-friendly version of the Nothing Phone 2, priced lower than the premium variant. While the Nothing Phone 2 was initially released at Rs 44,999 in India, the Phone 2a is expected to be more affordable, potentially costing several thousand rupees less.

Leaks indicate that considering the Nothing Phone 2 has been available for nearly a year and is currently retailing for Rs 36,999, the upcoming Phone 2a could be priced under Rs 35,000. The anticipated variant might come in two color options: black and white. There are speculations that Nothing might unveil the Phone 2a at the MWC 2024 event in a few weeks, which is expected to be the launch date for the device.

Leaked specifications for the Nothing Phone 2a suggest that it will maintain the distinctive design language that sets Nothing Phones apart. The Phone 2a is expected to feature a similar design but with fewer LED lights and a revised camera layout.

Leaked images on social media hint at a dual-camera system on the Phone 2a, including a centrally aligned 50-megapixel rear camera, deviating from the horizontal placement on the left. The phone is also anticipated to sport a 32-megapixel selfie camera, accompanied by Glyph controls, albeit with fewer customization options compared to its predecessor.

The Nothing Phone 2a is expected to feature a 6.7-inch 120Hz OLED screen from Visionix and BOE, although other display specifications are currently unknown. It is rumored to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset, equipped with 2x Cortex-A715 and 6x Cortex-A510 cores, along with an Arm Mali-G610 MC4 GPU. The phone is expected to come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, but the availability of other variants remains unclear. The Phone 2a might offer a battery capacity ranging between 4,500mAh and 4,800mAh.

On the software front, the Phone 2a is speculated to run on Nothing OS 2.5, based on Android 14. Nothing OS is known for its clean and smooth interface, with improvements made since its initial version. The Phone 2a is expected to provide a similar software experience to the Phone 2, with some variations in Glyph-related features. It will also receive the same software support as the Phone 2, including three years of OS updates and bi-monthly security patches.
