The IPL 2023 playoffs kicked off with an exhilarating Qualifier 1 between the Chennai Super Kings, four-time champions, and the defending champions Gujarat Titans. Opting to bowl first, Gujarat Titans had an early breakthrough when Darshan Nalkande dismissed CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad in the second over, caught by Shubman Gill. However, their celebration was short-lived as they soon realized it was a no-ball. Gaikwad went on to score a brilliant half-century.

In the Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2023 match held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to field against the Chennai Super Kings. With the league stage concluded, the focus shifted to the business end of the tournament. The stakes were high as Gujarat Titans faced off against Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 1, with a place in the final at stake.

Chennai Super Kings, known for their four championship titles, enjoyed the support of their home crowd at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. MS Dhoni and his team secured eight victories in the league stage, with five of them achieved at Chepauk.

Gujarat Titans made one change in their lineup, replacing Yash Dayal with Darshan Nalkande, while Chennai Super Kings maintained the same team.

After winning the toss, Gujarat Titans’ skipper Hardik Pandya stated, “We will bowl first. We heard dew will come, so we want to know what exactly to chase down. We were told to relax after getting into the top-2, but we didn’t want that. We want to stay focused and play good cricket. We are a smart team, and we don’t play only one way. We make sure to get the best out of the wicket and adapt. Darshan Nalkande comes in place of Yash Dayal.”
