Somy Ali: Actors will always be assessed on their physical appearance

Having to deal with the strain of looking attractive on and off-screen has become an unavoidable part of an actor’s life. Somy Ali, a former actress, believes it is past time for people to learn to distinguish between the real, the fictional, and the virtual worlds. “Aside from having tremendously gifted people, the entertainment industry is superficial and mainly concerned with outward appearances,” she argues. I can’t imagine the stress on the actors’ life, but that’s the price of fame, unfortunately. You will always and unavoidably be judged based on your appearance. It’s exactly what you asked for, and there’s no getting around it.”

Unlike in the past, when actors had to be careful of how they looked while attending an event or making a special appearance, today’s actors are required to dress up every time they leave the house. Although it may feel like more pressure, I believe most performers enjoy it. Indeed, social media has only added to their celebrity status. They’ve been able to interact with fans as a result of it. She adds, “I’ve even seen some actors acknowledge their fans and respond to comments.”

Actors are also better maintained nowadays. Male performers admit to receiving facials, waxing, manicures, and pedicures to keep up their appearance. “Well, I’m a big believer in honesty, so things are heading in the right direction. More power to individuals who are honest about what they’re doing to improve their appearance, whether it’s Botox or any other cosmetic surgery that makes them feel more secure and confident. Why not? If grooming improves one’s self-esteem and makes them feel better about themselves, why not?” she enquires

Somy adds of Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan, who she considers to be the most stylish male and female actors, “I am a tremendous fan of Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan.” Sushmita Sen and Katrina Kaif are two of my favorite female stars.”
