Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his perplexity over Rohit Sharma’s decision to delay Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling spells during the India vs England 3rd Test match. Manjrekar considered this move by Rohit as a misjudgment, suggesting that it was an error on the part of the Indian captain.

Sanjay Manjrekar criticized Rohit Sharma‘s strategy of introducing Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as the fourth and fifth bowling options during England’s first innings in the 3rd Test in Rajkot. Despite Ashwin being a premier spinner in home conditions, Rohit opted to start with Kuldeep Yadav instead. Manjrekar was displeased with this decision, especially considering the aggressive start made by England’s openers, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley.

Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his confusion over Rohit Sharma’s decision to introduce Ravichandran Ashwin into the attack in the 12th over when England had already reached 72/0. Manjrekar considered this move as an “error in judgement” from the Indian captain, as it seemed untimely given the aggressive start by England’s batsmen.

Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his confusion over Rohit Sharma‘s decision to introduce Ravichandran Ashwin into the attack late in the game, stating, “I didn’t understand that move.” Manjrekar believed it was a tactical error and questioned why Ashwin, who he considered the most capable spinner against England’s spin-playing approach, was not brought in earlier. He also questioned the decision to opt for Kuldeep Yadav instead of Ashwin when the pace bowlers were not making much of an impact.

Ravichandran Ashwin made an immediate impact upon being introduced into the attack, dismissing Zak Crawley with just his 7th delivery. This breakthrough not only provided relief to Team India but also marked a significant personal achievement for Ashwin, as it was his 500th Test wicket. In achieving this milestone, Ashwin became the fastest Indian and the second-fastest player in the world to reach this feat.

Sanjay Manjrekar emphasized the importance of Rohit Sharma being cautious and strategic against the dangerous England team.

Sanjay Manjrekar expressed concern that the late introduction of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja into the bowling attack could potentially have negative consequences for India. He suggested that Rohit Sharma’s decision to delay bringing on the spinners, despite England’s strong start, might prove to be a tactical mistake. Manjrekar emphasized the need for Rohit to be cautious and not underestimate the threat posed by the English batsmen.

On Day 2, England ended strong at 207/2 with Duckett displaying a brilliant innings, remaining unbeaten at 133 off just 118 balls by stumps. However, India faced a setback as Ashwin withdrew from the Rajkot Test after the day’s play due to a family medical emergency, flying to Chennai. This departure significantly reduces India’s bowling options to just four bowlers for the remainder of the match, posing a challenge given the amount of cricket left to be played.
