Hardik Pandya led the Gujarat Titans to an IPL title and a final appearance in two seasons. However, Mumbai Indians acquired him and appointed him as their captain, recognizing his leadership abilities and seeking to leverage his skills for their team’s success.

After Mumbai Indians coach Mark Boucher explained in a podcast why the franchise had decided to elevate Hardik Pandya to team captaincy over longtime skipper Rohit Sharma, a cryptic comment from Rohit’s wife Ritika Sajdeh on Instagram has emerged.

Ritika was responding to a clip on Instagram of Boucher offering his explanation for why the think tank chose to replace Rohit with Pandya, who had a successful stint with the Gujarat Titans, leading them to an IPL title in the first season and to the final in the second year.

Pandya played a crucial role in the Mumbai franchise’s success, contributing to four of its five titles between 2015 and 2021.

Ritika Sajdeh expressed her disagreement with Mark Boucher’s explanation for Mumbai Indians’ decision to replace Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as captain, commenting, “So many things wrong with this.” Boucher had described the decision as a purely cricketing one aimed at maximizing team performance and Rohit’s individual potential.

Boucher emphasized the distractions players encounter during the IPL, including photoshoots and promotional commitments, which can overshadow the focus on cricket.

Boucher hinted that the responsibilities of captaincy might have affected Rohit’s batting performance.
