Saurabh Goyal, who has featured in the Sonakshi Sinha-starrer ‘Akira’ and numerous web series, is thrilled with the comments on his latest Bollywood outing, ‘Chhorii’, in which he’s visible opposite Nushrratt Bharuccha. The horror flick helmed by Vishal Furia also stars veteran actress Mita Vashisht.

Talking about the evolution of the horror style in Bollywood and how ‘Chhorii’ is a true-blue spooky movie, he says, “In recent years, we’ve seen a lot more horror-comedies, but we still don’t have too many scary movies in India. So, when I was approached for this film, the first question that came to my mind was whether it was another spooky comedy or a seriously scary movie.” By his own admission, Saurabh was relieved when he was told that ‘Chhorii’ was not a horror-comedy.

He shares, “When I’m watching a horror film, I want to get scared. So, I was excited to know that I was going to be a part of a serious horror film.” Given that most of the movie is about a house surrounded by a maze of sugarcane fields, shooting the portion was indeed scary.

Saurabh says, “One night, I had a break for a couple of hours and thought I’d go back to the base to chill for a while. It was pitch dark and I got lost in the maze. I wasn’t carrying my mobile and I didn’t know whether calling for help would be of any use. Thankfully, a light came up some distance away, so I rushed hastily towards it. You need a lot of silence and seriousness when shooting a horror movie. Even though I was lost for just 10 minutes, in a situation and atmosphere like that, even one minute seems like an eternity.”

Moreover, running on ‘Chhorii’ additionally gave him the possibility to work with actors like Mita and Nushratt. “I’ve grown up watching Mitaji’s performances. She is a wonderful actress, and I got to learn a lot just from talking to her during the making of this film,” says Saurabh, adding, “Nushratt has no starry airs. Whether I had to discuss a scene with her or do some rehearsals, she was always welcoming and never threw attitude ki ‘ ek-do rehearsals ho gaye, ab jaao yahaan se’. We play a couple, so, we had to construct the desired equation to play our respective characters convincingly. Even otherwise, one ought to speak to her like a friend.”
