According to reports from Bloomberg, Gary Geaves, who has served as Apple’s Vice President of Acoustics for nearly 13 years, will be stepping down from his role.

Ruchir Dave, who has accumulated over 14 years of experience at Apple and is a graduate of a college in Gujarat, has been appointed as the new Vice President of Acoustics at Apple, succeeding Gary Geaves in the role.


Ruchir Dave is a seasoned professional with a long-standing tenure at Apple, spanning over 14 years. He initially joined the company in 2009 as a lead in the Acoustics Engineer team and steadily progressed through various roles. Dave’s career trajectory at Apple saw him rise to the Manager level in May 2012, and he further advanced to the position of Senior Director in March 2021.

Prior to his tenure at Apple, Dave gained valuable experience during his nearly 10-year stint at Cisco. Interestingly, his LinkedIn profile indicates that he was once a student in Gujarat, suggesting that he pursued his education in the region before embarking on his professional journey.

According to Ruchir Dave’s LinkedIn profile, he attended Sharadmandir, Ahmedabad, from 1982 to 1994 for his schooling. After completing his schooling, he pursued his undergraduate studies at Lalbhai Dalpatbhai College of Engineering, Ahmedabad, where he graduated in the year 1998. Following his undergraduate studies, Dave went on to study at Penn State University for further education.

The reshuffling of Apple’s hardware team, as reported by Bloomberg, indicates a significant change in leadership that hasn’t been officially announced by the company. The news of Ruchir Dave assuming the new role was disclosed by individuals familiar with the matter who preferred to remain anonymous due to the confidential nature of the development. Apple’s hardware team, comprising approximately 300 employees, holds a crucial position in the company’s HomePod, AirPods, and speakers business. These innovations have become key selling points for Apple’s range of audio products, underscoring the significance of the hardware team’s role within the company.

A significant update was introduced by Apple to its popular audio product, the AirPods, a couple of months ago. For the first time, the company decided to replace the lightning port with the universally accepted USB Type C charging port. This change was well-received as it allowed users of the new AirPods to charge their devices without the need for an additional cable, enhancing convenience and usability.
