Teri Baaton Mein: Rom-Com or Robot-Com? A Flat Battery Review

Spread the love

“Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” fails to live up to its potential, succumbing to its own flawed execution. Despite promising leads in Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, the film struggles due to direction issues from Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah.

The review criticizes “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” for its attempt at an out-of-the-box story but ultimately delivering a lame and ridiculous experience. It suggests that the film’s experimentation with a sci-fi romantic comedy theme tests the audience’s patience and fails to deliver a sensible or realistic love story between a human and a robot. The attempt to explore human-machine coexistence and conflict leads to a lack of coherence and leaves viewers questioning the film’s sanity.

The story of “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” revolves around Aryan Agnihotri (played by Shahid Kapoor), a robotics programmer who develops feelings for a robot named Sifra (portrayed by Kriti Sanon). Aryan is tricked into the final testing stage by his aunt, Urmila (played by Dimple Kapadia), who is the CEO of a robotics company. Despite the unusual circumstances, love blossoms between Aryan and Sifra, leading Aryan to introduce Sifra to his family and eventually consider marrying her. However, the film’s promising premise is marred by a poorly executed script, lazy screenplay, and inconsistent pacing, leading to disappointment for viewers expecting a genuinely engaging narrative.

The review of “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” criticizes the film for its failure to live up to the standards set by other futuristic films and shows. It compares the portrayal of the robot Sifra unfavorably to iconic characters like Rajinikanth’s Chitti from “Enthiran,” noting that Chitti was endearing and entertaining, whereas Sifra lacks common sense and fails to evoke any emotions from the audience. The review also mentions popular TV series like “Small Wonder” and its Indian adaptation “Karishma Ka Karishma,” which successfully blended humor with the concept of a robot living among humans, contrasting them with the disappointment of “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya.” Additionally, it references “Ra.One,” starring Shah Rukh Khan, suggesting that even though it had its flaws, it was not as bad as the portrayal of Sifra in this film. Overall, the review highlights the film’s inability to offer a satisfying and engaging experience within the genre of futuristic storytelling.

The humor in “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” seems lacking, particularly in the first half, where senseless events unfold without much entertainment value. The unlikely scenario of Aryan and Sifra’s relationship, including their steamy encounters, lacks believability. While some light humor emerges in the second half when Aryan introduces Sifra to his family, many jokes fall flat, expecting forced laughter akin to Sifra’s robotic responses. An example is a scene where Aryan runs into his grandfather and says, “Main toh bhaag raha hoon,” reminiscent of Geet from “Jab We Met.” However, this potential moment for humor is underplayed and fails to make a significant impact.

After enduring 2 hours and 23 minutes of “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya,” the fundamental question arises: What exactly is the premise of this film? It fails to deliver on its promises across all fronts. If it aims to be a comedy, the jokes are sorely lacking. If it intends to be a romantic tale, the romance is nowhere to be found. As for its classification as a sci-fi movie for kids, the science is virtually non-existent. Even the dialogues fall flat, leaving one to wonder if the writers were uninspired while crafting them. The only saving grace is the final 20 minutes and an intense climax, which somewhat clarifies the film’s vague intentions, if any. A cameo appearance towards the end provides a much-needed breather and briefly revitalizes the viewer’s fatigued senses.

Despite its shortcomings, “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” remains somewhat watchable due to the presence of Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon on screen. Shahid brings a goofy and funny energy to his role, delivering several humorous one-liners, even though some lack the intended comedic impact. He capitalizes on his star power to carry the film forward. The initial scenes between Aryan and his aunt are heartwarming, and it’s unfortunate that the film doesn’t maintain this tone throughout. Kriti, portraying the role of a robot, delivers an extremely fine performance in terms of her hand gestures, walk, talk, and overall body language. She looks stunning in every frame, and while she has ample scope to perform, the weak storyline limits her ability to fully shine.

“Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” introduces an ensemble cast portraying Aryan’s extended family, including Dharmendra as his dada ji, Rakesh Bedi as his papa, Anubha Fatehpuria as his mummy Sharmila, Rajesh Kumar as his mama, Grusha Kapoor as his bua, Brijbhushan Shukla as his foofa, and Raashul Tandon as their cook Pappu. Aryan’s best friend Monty, played by Ashish Verma, serves as his partner in crime but appears sporadically throughout the film. While the supporting lineup tries their best to elevate the script, the material they are given falls short. Additionally, their character arcs follow cliched patterns typical of a joint family scenario, further limiting their impact on the overall narrative.

“Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” ultimately falls short as a bland and lacklustre affair that struggles to maintain audience engagement. It heavily relies on its good-looking lead pair but fails to deliver a compelling storyline. The film’s only saving grace may be its three song and dance sequences throughout the movie, along with one in the end credits (the title song), which could potentially offer some enjoyment to viewers in theaters.
