’12th Fail’ unfolds the inspiring life story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who triumphed over extreme poverty to achieve the remarkable feat of becoming an IPS officer.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra shares that Rajkumar Hirani suggested adapting Manoj Sharma’s book ‘Twelfth Fail’ into a film. Hirani also recommended Vikrant Massey for the lead role, and Vidhu acknowledges how Vikrant inspired him to direct the film, ’12th Fail,’ which revolves around IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma’s journey.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra reminisces about a conversation with Rajkumar Hirani regarding ’12th Fail.’ During the celebration of the film’s 100 days in cinemas, Vidhu mentioned that Manoj Sharma, the inspiration behind the film, approached him with the book ‘Twelfth Fail’ seeking a blurb. Vidhu noted that both Raju Hirani and Sachin Tendulkar had praised the book.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra shared, “I called Raju (Rajkumar Hirani), and he felt this book could be adapted into a film. When I asked if he would direct it, he was occupied. So, I began writing and fell in love with the script.
It was Raju who recommended Vikrant’s name. Having seen his work in ‘A Death in the Gunj,’ I admired him. Vikrant’s talent inspired me to take on the directorial role for this film.”
Adapted from Anurag Pathak’s book, ‘12th Fail‘ narrates the compelling life story of Manoj Kumar Sharma, who triumphed over extreme poverty to achieve the prestigious position of an IPS officer. The film delves into his journey, emphasizing the pivotal role played by his wife, IRS officer Shraddha Joshi, in his success. Vikrant Massey took on the role of Manoj, with Medha portraying Shraddha. ’12th Fail’ hit theaters on October 27 last year.
12th Fail‘ has garnered acclaim from a diverse range of prominent figures including Kareena Kapoor, Kamal Haasan, Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Vicky Kaushal, Rishabh Shetty, Sanjay Dutt, Farhan Akhtar, and Anil Kapoor. The film achieved further recognition by winning the Best Film award at the 69th Filmfare Awards.
Vikrant Massey, sharing his experience working on the film, mentioned, ‘The movie is very typical Vidhu Vinod Chopra style, based on hard reality and is a hard-hitting film. The role was very challenging. I had to lose weight and darken my skin.
