“Google Plans to Rename AI Chatbot Bard to Gemini After Unveiling Image Generation Feature.

Google is considering a rebrand of its AI chatbot Bard to Gemini. Additionally, there are plans to introduce a paid ‘Advanced’ tier, leveraging Gemini Ultra. Further, Google is set to launch a dedicated Gemini app catering to smartphone users.

Following the recent release of the image generation feature for its AI chatbot Bard, Google is reportedly considering a name change to ‘Gemini.’ This move draws parallels with Microsoft’s rebranding of its AI chatbot Bing to Copilot after introducing similar capabilities

Developer Dylan Roussel on X (formerly Twitter) shares a leaked changelog from Google, unveiling upcoming updates for its AI chatbot, Google Bard. The disclosed changes, scheduled for release on February 7, prominently feature the rebranding of Bard to Gemini.

The rebranding of Google Bard to Gemini is in line with Google‘s strategy to integrate its Large Language Model (LLM) Gemini across various products. As Gemini serves as the underlying AI model for Bard, this move suggests Google’s intention to promote the broader adoption of its Gemini AI model.

Google’s changelog screenshot hints at more than just rebranding, suggesting the introduction of a paid ‘Advanced’ tier powered by Gemini Ultra.

This tier promises enhanced multi-modal capabilities, improved coding support, and advanced file and document exploration. Furthermore, Gemini is set to extend its availability to Canada, expanding its reach beyond its initial launch.

Google unveiled its Large Language Model (LLM) Gemini last year, featuring three versions – Gemini Nano, Gemini Pro, and Gemini Ultra. Google claims that the LLM model excels in handling intricate tasks such as logical reasoning, coding, following nuanced instructions, and facilitating creative collaboration.

In addition to rebranding and introducing a paid ‘Advanced’ tier, Google is set to launch a dedicated Gemini app for smartphones. Designed to leverage Google AI for tasks like learning, writing, and planning, Gemini will seamlessly integrate with other Google services such as Gmail, Maps, and YouTube. Android users will have a standalone Gemini app, while iOS users may access it through the Google app.

Per a leaked changelog, the upcoming Gemini app by Google will have limited device availability. While supporting additional languages like Japanese, Korean, and English in most global regions, certain European countries may be excluded initially. Google aims to expand Gemini’s availability to more countries and languages in the near future.

While Google has not officially confirmed these changes, anticipation is high for significant announcements expected later this week.
