Despite Strong Performance, ‘Fighter’ Box Office Collection Lags Behind Hrithik Roshan’s 2019 Hit ‘War’ Directed by Siddharth Anand.
“Fighter,” featuring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone, experienced a significant drop in box office collections on its fifth day (Monday). Despite strong initial performances with Rs 22.50 crore on Thursday, Rs 39.50 crore on Friday, Rs 27.50 crore on Saturday, and Rs 29 crore on Sunday, the film is estimated to have earned around Rs 8 crore on Monday. This decline on the fifth day is commonly referred to as “Monday blues” in the film industry, reflecting the usual drop in collections after the weekend. The figures are based on initial estimates from the film trading portal Sacnilk.
As of its first Monday, the total India box office collection for “Fighter” is estimated to have reached around Rs 126.50 crore. The film recorded an overall 12.70% occupancy across its Hindi shows on Monday.
“Fighter” recorded high theatrical occupancy in various regions, indicating strong audience turnout. The regions that logged high occupancy for the film include Chennai, Jaipur, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, National Capital Region (NCR), Pune, Kolkata, and Lucknow.
“Fighter” is currently trailing behind Hrithik Roshan’s 2019 film “War,” which was directed by Siddharth Anand. “War” had a remarkable opening weekend, making a total of Rs 159.70 crore in its first five days. Despite this, “Fighter” has surpassed the box office collections of other Hrithik Roshan films like “Bang Bang” (Rs 90.13 crore), “Agneepath” (Rs 78.80 crore), and “Krrish 3” (Rs 72.80 crore).
Film critic and trade analyst Rohit Jaiswal, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), commented on the decline in “Fighter’s” box office collections on Monday. He expressed disappointment, stating that the film has experienced a significant fall. Jaiswal mentioned that Hrithik Roshan may have to wait for another film to achieve success, emphasizing that being limited to an urban audience might not be sufficient.
He suggested that, based on the current trend, “Fighter” might struggle to reach lifetime collections of 175 or 200 crores, and he concluded with the phrase “Fighter chapter closed,” implying challenges for the film in sustaining its box office performance.
“Fighter” has crossed the Rs 225 crore milestone at the global box office within five days of its theatrical release. The film earned Rs 36.04 crore on day 1, Rs 64.57 crore on day 2, Rs 56.19 crore on day 3, Rs 52.74 crore on day 4, and Rs 16.33 crore on day 5, bringing its total global earnings to Rs 225.87 crore, according to film critic and trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan.
“Fighter” has received positive audience feedback with an IMDb rating of 7.9/10 and an audience score of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes. Jointly bankrolled by Viacom18 Studios and Marflix Studios, the film features a star-studded cast including Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover, Talat Aziz, and Sanjeeda Sheikh in pivotal roles. Notably, this movie marks the first collaboration between Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone.
“Fighter” explores significant events like the Pulwama attack, Balakot airstrike, and India-Pakistan border clashes in 2019. The narrative also highlights the courage and sacrifices of Indian Air Force (IAF) officers in the line of duty. The incorporation of real-world events adds a layer of authenticity to the storyline, contributing to the film’s appeal.
