Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja delivered an impressive performance during the opening session of the first day in the India-England Test match.

Test cricket as they faced England in Hyderabad. English captain Ben Stokes chose to bat after winning the toss, considering the pitch’s significant turn. India initially started with pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj but switched to spinners, specifically Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, after the ninth over.

Despite England’s aggressive start, the spin duo created havoc, causing the top order to lose three quick wickets. This suggests that the decision to introduce spinners brought about a turning point in the game, impacting England’s batting performance.

With Ashwin also dismissing Zak Crawley, the spin duo achieved a significant milestone. They now hold the record for being the highest Test wicket-taking duo in India, surpassing the legendary pair of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh.

This accomplishment signifies their effectiveness in taking wickets during the match and their impact on Indian cricket history.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja was one wicket behind the former India spin twins (Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh) who had a combined total of 503 wickets. Additionally, it notes that the third position in the list of highest wicket-taking duos features Harbhajan Singh and pacer Zaheer Khan, who together picked 474 wickets.

International cricket record for the highest number of wickets held by a bowling duo. The famed English pair of James Anderson and Stuart Broad currently holds this record with 1039 dismissals. It mentions that Broad retired from all forms of international cricket after the Ashes in 2023. Another notable pair, Australia’s Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne, achieved the milestone of over a thousand wickets, totaling 1001 dismissals in the longest format of the game.

Cricket match’s proceedings, particularly focusing on England’s innings after a top-order collapse. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow attempted to rebuild the innings, taking England to 108/3 at lunch. However, their efforts were short-lived as both batsmen were dismissed shortly after the play resumed. The wickets were taken by Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja, indicating the impact of spin bowling in disrupting England’s efforts to stabilize their innings.
