Rohit Sharma has stated that his and a select group of important players’ absence from the Indian team in T20Is is a premeditated and strategic move.

This decision indicates a planned strategy focused at improving the team’s performance and maintaining its competitive edge.

Rohit Sharma has not played in any T20 International matches since the 2022 T20 World Cup

Following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup 2022, Team India captain Rohit Sharma has decided not to play any T20 International matches.

With India trailing the West Indies 2-0 in the upcoming 5-match T20I series, doubts have been raised over the absence of key players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. The absence of these key players has sparked debate regarding the team’s strategy and attitude to the series.

Nonetheless, Rohit Sharma has ended the silence surrounding his absence from the T20 team by explaining that “it’s not feasible” for certain players to participate in all formats of the game, particularly with the impending 2023 ODI World Cup on the horizon.

Rohit Sharma has shed light on his absence from the T20 team, emphasizing that the current focus is on the 50-over World Cup.

Speaking at an event in the United States of America, he clarified, “It was made clear in the past that it’s a 50-over World Cup year for us. And for some of the guys, it’s not possible to play all formats.

If you look at the schedule, there were back-to-back matches, so we decided to consider players’ workload and ensure they have adequate rest and management.

I fall into that category as well,” as reported by the Indian Express.

The concept of managing players’ workloads has become a significant point of discussion within the Indian cricket community.

The physical condition and fitness levels of prominent figures such as Kohli, Shami, and Jadeja are being closely scrutinized, particularly with the upcoming ODI World Cup on the horizon.

As a result, the T20I squad has experienced an infusion of new talents, including emerging players like Ravi Bishnoi and Mukesh Kumar, who have been granted opportunities to showcase their capabilities on the field.

With Rohit Sharma absent, the responsibility of leading the T20 side has been bestowed upon Hardik Pandya. In fact, whispers are circulating throughout the cricketing fraternity, hinting that after the culmination of the ODI Cricket World Cup, Hardik Pandya, who currently captains the Gujarat Titans, might potentially assume the mantle of the T20I team’s full-time captaincy.
