Following their victory in the two-match Test series with a 1-0 lead, Team India is set to face West Indies in the first ODI of the three-match series on Thursday in Bridgetown.

After securing a 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series, Team India is geared up to face West Indies in the opening ODI of the three-match series in Bridgetown on Thursday.

Led by Rohit Sharma, the Indian side will utilize this series against West Indies to assess certain players and finalize their team combinations ahead of the Asia Cup, which will precede the ODI World Cup at home scheduled for October-November. During this series, Suryakumar Yadav will be looking to enhance his credentials in the 50-over format, while Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are expected to compete for the wicketkeeper’s position.

Similar to the two Tests, India is anticipated to assert dominance over West Indies in the upcoming series. However, this series offers a crucial opportunity for players like Suryakumar, Kishan, Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Umran Malik to showcase their talent and make their mark.

Below is our suggested playing XI for India in the first ODI against West Indies:

Rohit Sharma: The India captain showcased an outstanding performance in the two-match Test series, amassing 240 runs and emerging as the second-highest run-scorer. However, he faced a setback in the recent ODI series against Australia, managing only 43 runs in two matches. Rohit will undoubtedly seek to kickstart his preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup with a strong showing.

Shubman Gill: The young opener has proven to be a valuable asset for Team India across all three formats with his aggressive batting style. Nonetheless, he couldn’t meet the expectations of the fans during the Test series against West Indies, and he also missed out on posting big scores in the three-match ODI series against Australia. Gill will now target a formidable performance against the West Indies.

Virat Kohli: The esteemed Indian batsman left everyone impressed with his heroic 76th international century during the Test matches against West Indies. He will aim to maintain his momentum and continue his impressive form in the ODIs as well.

Suryakumar Yadav: The aggressive T20I batsman is renowned for his explosive performances, but he has yet to make a significant impact in the 50-over format. The ODIs against West Indies present a great opportunity for him to test his batting skills and prepare for the World Cup.

Ishan Kishan: With Rishabh Pant unavailable, Ishan will be entrusted with the wicketkeeping duties, likely getting the nod over Sanju Samson. The 25-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman showcased promise during the Test series against West Indies, where he smashed a half-century in just 33 balls.

Hardik Pandya: The talented all-rounder aims to elevate his performance in the ODIs against West Indies. In the recent ODIs against Australia, he scored 66 runs in three matches and claimed four wickets. However, he possesses the caliber to deliver even more.

Ravindra Jadeja: Since his return to international cricket after his knee surgery, the all-rounder has left a lasting impression. He has been exceptional with the ball across all formats and will seek to replicate his heroics in the ODIs against West Indies.

Shardul Thakur: Known for his ability to take crucial wickets and contribute with the bat in challenging situations, Team India may include him in the Playing XI to bolster their pace attack.

Umran Malik: The 23-year-old fast bowler has been impressing everyone with his blistering pace. With eight ODIs under his belt and 13 wickets to his name, he will undoubtedly seize this opportunity with enthusiasm.

Kuldeep Yadav: The skilled left-arm wrist spinner showcased a decent performance with the ball during the ODIs against Australia, securing a three-wicket haul in the third match. He will now strive to replicate his heroics against West Indies.

Yuzvendra Chahal: The experienced spinner last played an ODI match against New Zealand in January of this year. Team India may consider including him in the Playing XI to bolster their spin attack.
