After undergoing back surgery in March, India pacer had resumed bowling last month after successfully undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA.

Jasprit Bumrah, a key figure in Team India’s upcoming 50-over World Cup campaign, is nearing full fitness and is expected to join the Indian white-ball team for the T20Is in Ireland next month. Currently undergoing training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, Bumrah has been gradually increasing his workload. Shreyas Iyer has also resumed batting after a period of rest.

After undergoing a back surgery in March, Bumrah resumed bowling last month following a successful rehabilitation at the NCA.

Under the supervision of BCCI’s head of cricket, VVS Laxman, his rehabilitation program has been ongoing, with Bumrah now bowling at full throttle during net sessions, delivering 8-10 overs.

Initially, the selectors and team management had planned to include Bumrah in the Asia Cup scheduled for September.

However, his recent progress indicates the possibility of him traveling to Ireland next month with a second-string Indian team. A final decision on this matter is expected in the coming days.

Due to a lack of competitive cricket since September last year and the nature of his injury, Bumrah is being handled with extra care. Fortunately, he has shown no signs of discomfort during his daily training sessions at the nets.

There are even indications that Bumrah may participate in a few practice matches at the NCA, where training camps are currently underway.

Prasidh Krishna, who underwent surgery for a lumbar stress fracture, is reported to be making good progress in his recovery and has started bowling again.

Similar to Bumrah, the 27-year-old missed the IPL due to injury and his last competitive appearance was in August 2022 during a match in Zimbabwe. Following the stress fracture, he had to undergo surgery. Initially, there were concerns about his fitness for the World Cup, but Prasidh has now resumed regular bowling sessions.

While his participation in the Ireland tour next month is not confirmed, he is expected to be part of the Asia Cup squad, which would provide a significant boost to the Indian team.

Since his debut in the Indian team, Prasidh has consistently made a significant impact during the middle-overs with his pace.

As opposition teams often target the second powerplay, Prasidh’s inclusion would undoubtedly strengthen India’s prospects and might even lead to changes in their team composition for the World Cup.

As a strike bowler, his ability to generate pace in the middle-overs is highly valued, and his deceptive deliveries, combining skiddy ones with awkward bounces due to his unique action, have proven difficult to score runs off.
