I extensively tested the OnePlus Nord Buds 2r for tasks beyond music and content streaming. This comprehensive review provides an in-depth analysis of OnePlus’ latest offering.
The OnePlus Nord Buds 2r includes 12.4mm drivers, support for Dolby Atmos, dual microphones, and an AI Clear Call Algorithm.
Earbuds are a crucial component of my daily routine, as I rarely leave without them. Whether it’s for making calls, enjoying music, or streaming on OTT platforms, they have numerous roles to fulfill. As a result, I am meticulous when it comes to choosing the perfect pair of earbuds.
Over the past few weeks, I have been utilizing the OnePlus Buds 2r. In terms of sound profile, the OnePlus earbuds don’t possess a distinct character typically associated with renowned brands like Bose, Sony, or Harman Kardon. However, this Chinese technology giant is making notable progress in delivering high-quality audio to budget-conscious listeners through their affordable true wireless earbuds.
Several months back, I had the opportunity to try out the OnePlus Nord Buds 2, and upon receiving the new pair, I wondered if they would provide a superior audio experience or if they would simply be an average set of true wireless earbuds. Despite my initial doubts, I was pleasantly taken aback by the performance of these new earbuds.
Appearance and Texture: Regarding the design, there is minimal disparity between the OnePlus Nord Buds 2 and the OnePlus Nord Buds 2r. In my evaluation of the Nord Buds 2, I depicted its Thunder Grey hue as resembling a “miniature trunk adorned with cosmic-inspired shades.” Although the design language remains the same, the sense of holding something that exudes durability and timelessness was noticeably absent when I held the Nord Buds 2r. They felt incredibly light, with the buds’ tiny stems having a papery and weightless sensation when touched. The available color options are Triple Blue and Deep Grey.
The earbud stems are designed with their functionality in mind, and they come with three additional pairs of buds. Opting for the medium-sized buds, they fit well and provided satisfactory noise cancellation and sound quality. The inclusion of extra pairs of earbuds allows for some degree of customization for users.
The pairing and connection process for the OnePlus Nord Buds 2r is simple and straightforward when using OnePlus smartphones. Users just need to enable Bluetooth, open the charging case, and follow the on-screen instructions. For non-OnePlus phones, desktops, or laptops, the device can be connected by keeping the charging case open with the earbuds inside. It typically takes only a few seconds to establish the connection.
Listening Experience: I tested the OnePlus Nord Buds 2r with my laptop, iPhone, and another Android device. OnePlus’ latest offering provides a pleasant acoustic experience, with decent bass and treble. However, it’s worth noting that for just a slightly higher price, consumers can access true wireless earbuds with features like active noise cancellation (ANC) and environmental noise cancellation (ENC). In my personal experience, the sound profile of the OnePlus Nord Buds 2r is slightly inferior to its predecessor. While the sound quality is adequate for casual listeners, hardcore audiophiles might not find it particularly enticing.
The OnePlus Nord Buds 2r boasts 12.4mm drivers, Dolby Atmos support, dual microphones, and an AI Clear Call Algorithm. OnePlus claims that the TWS earbuds house the largest driver, enhancing the ability to capture finer details across various music genres.
