“Massive step forward in a truly inclusive society”, remarks Ranveer Singh on making textbooks accessible for deaf children using sign language

Actor Ranveer Singh has worked regularly to raise issues faced by the deaf community. He also urged authorities to consider and declare Indian Sign Language (ISL) as the 23rd official language of India.

The actor praised the steps India has taken to make textbooks and other educational materials for deaf children accessible using sign language.

Speaking on the same topic, Ranveer shared in a statement, “The news of the NCERT textbooks being made available digitally in the ISL for Standard 15 students is a huge step forward in a truly inclusive society. Inclusion leads to accessibility and our leaders who identify this requirement makes me proud and confident for what is to come in 2022.”

The National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has signed a memorandum of understanding agreement with Indian Sign Language Training and Research Center (ISLRTC) to assist deaf children with educational materials.”

Ranveer further added “Availability of NCERT textbooks in Indian Sign Language (ISL) will ensure that hearing impaired children will now also be able to access educational resources and will be a useful and indispensable resource for teachers, teacher trainers, parents and the hearing-impaired community.. me and the nation and I salute this great step. This is an important start to level the playing field for the 70 lakh + citizens of the deaf community. With my personal commitment to IncInk, I will continue to be the spokesperson for the community until their fundamental rights are respected and slowly but surely we will get there.”

On the work side, Ranveer will soon be seen in Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif’s “Sooryavanshi” in a special appearance. He also has ’83, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, ‘Takht’ and ‘Jayeshbhai Zordaar’.
