A group of 5 Chinese college students have filed a lawsuit in opposition to Apple for not including a charger for an iPhone 12 they bought. Apple had noted that the change might lessen carbon emissions and the use of valuable materials, and could be more environment-friendly.
The college students reportedly demanded Apple to offer a wall charger for an iPhone 12 Pro Max which was purchased by one student, and to pay a hundred yuan for breach of contract, and additionally to cover the legal fees. One of the students argued at the Beijing Internet Court that the USB-C to Lightning cable that came withinside the iPhone 12 box was not compatible with other chargers available in the market.
The Shanghai Law Journal has defined the case according to which one of the college students named Xiaocheng was annoyed due to the fact her iPhone 12 Pro Max did not come with a charger. Xiaofang claimed that Apple is leaving out wall chargers to sell the newly released MagSafe chargers.
She additionally claimed that Apple’s decision not to include a charger is stimulated by profit. A representative for Apple in turn stated that it is common for corporations to promote phones with out a charger and cited that the iPhone 12’s packaging makes it clear that no charger is included. The case is reportedly still in development and has since gone viral on Chinese social media.
Apple introduced the iPhone 12 series in October last year and announced that the phone would only have a charging cable withinside the box, with out a power adapter and headphones. Apple mentioned that the environmental effect of their decision might cause a reduction of two million metric tonnes of carbon, that is same as putting off 450,000 motors in a single year.
Earlier this year, the Brazilian customer watchdog, Procon-SP, has fined Apple $2 million for not including a charger withinside the newly-released iPhone 12 series, accusing the tech giant of allegedly engaging in “deceptive marketing and marketing and selling a device with out the charger and on unfair terms.”
