Huma Qureshi: I don’t think I should be compensated differently just because I’m a woman

The salary disparity argument that began in Hollywood soon spread to Bollywood as well. Many people pointed out that, in addition to the number of hours worked on set, an actor’s pay is based on the amount of footfall they guarantee during a film’s opening weekend.

“I believe in equal pay for equal work,” Huma Qureshi says in response to the issue. If two persons accomplish the same amount of labor and have the same box office status, they should be compensated equally. I don’t think I should be paid differently just because I’m a woman. Feminism isn’t synonymous with being caustic and enraged. It does not imply putting others down. It implies that you believe in gender equality for both men and women. A feminist is a woman who empowers and supports other women. It does not imply that women are the finest and that everyone else is inferior to them. I believe there has been a very poisonous brand of feminism floating around in the market recently, which I do not support.”

“I believe we can have a future where everyone has equal opportunity and equal remuneration for equal work,” says the Badlapur actress, who will complete a decade in the industry next year. In a world where a film’s substance dictates its budget, not that if it features a woman, it should be given a lower budget and vice versa. I’m not saying this is the world we live in, but it’s a possibility.

While B-Town performers have been producing for a while, the leading females have just recently joined the ranks of producers. Among Huma’s peers who have taken the jump are Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Richa Chadha, and Alia Bhatt. Is she planning on the following suit? “Let me put it this way: I will always be working until the day I die,” she adds, adding, “I’m not sure in what capacity, but I will always be a part of cinema — my first love.”

During her most recent interview with BT, the actor said that she had started writing during the pandemic. “Yes, there is something I have written, but it is not a film, that is all I can say at the moment,” she says, while remaining tight-lipped about the details.
