The jury members for the short film competition at the 2021 Indian Film Festival of Melbourne have been appointed as actor Richa Chadha and filmmaker Onir (IFFM). The theme for this year’s short film competition, according to the festival’s organizers, is modern slavery and equality.

The issue was chosen with the goal of addressing modern dangers to the principles of equality, freedom, and inclusion.

Chadha is no stranger to the IFFM, having opened the 2018 season with her critically praised film ‘Love Sonia. ‘The 34-year-old actress expressed her delight at returning to the festival as a judge this year.

“It’s a great experience to be a jury member for the IFFM Short Film Festival 2021. It’s thrilling to be back here, but this time as a judge. We may expect some incredible short films on the topics of modern slavery and equality, both of which are difficult things to tackle “Chadha remarked.

The actor, who appeared in Arati Kadav’s short film ’55 km/sec,’ acknowledged the difficulty of making a short film.
“I know how tough it is to deliver a complete story in such a short length of time, especially one with such a significant issue. As a result, I’m looking forward to seeing all of the short film submissions this year “she continued.

The richness and range of the short films captivated and thrilled Onir, 52, who has been involved with the IFFM from its inception.

“I believe that modern-day slavery is rampant throughout our current globe and that serious human exploitation takes numerous forms. And, while our Constitution declares that everyone has the right to equality, is this true in practice? This year’s theme allows filmmakers to delve into various aspects of society that reflect the current state of humanity. “I’m looking forward to seeing what the filmmakers come up with,” the director of “I Am,” said.

Chadha and Onir will be the judges for the short film competition, according to IFFM Festival Director Mitu Bhowmik Lange.

“They are the type of judges who not only inspire others, but also have a large body of supreme work to show their knowledge and flare in their various disciplines, and we are honored to have them as our respected judges at the 2021 festival,” she continued.

The famous festival’s physical version will take place from August 12 to 20, while its digital iteration will take place from August 15 to 30 across Australia.
