Neena Gupta, an Indian actress and director, will release her autobiography “Sach Kahun Toh” [If I Tell the Truth] on June 14.

“Last year, during the lockdown, I wrote my novel, ‘Sach Kahun Toh,’ my autobiography. In these tough and bleak times, when we are sad and at home, I thought maybe my book would help you get through a few days,” Gupta said in a video released by her publishing house, Penguin India.

Gupta made her acting debut in 1985 and had a career comeback with the film “Badhaai Ho.” Masaba Gupta, a prominent fashion designer, was raised by her as a single parent. Gupta is known for living life on her own terms and remains one of Bollywood’s most versatile performers. The National Award-winning Indian actress will speak about her life and career highlights, including her role as a pregnant mother in her late fifties in the film “Badhaai Ho.”

In a quote, the publisher said, “She lists the major milestones in her life, including her unorthodox pregnancy and single parenthood, as well as a promising second innings in Bollywood.”

“She lists the big milestones in her life, including her unorthodox pregnancy and single parenthood, as well as a promising second innings in Bollywood,” the publisher said in a statement. Her book will also cover topics such as how to survive as an outsider in Bollywood, its internal politics, and how to succeed without the help of an acting dynasty. “‘Sach Kahun Toh’ is a frank, self-depreciating portrait of the woman behind the persona, detailing her life’s many choices, her battles against stereotypes, both then and now, and how she may not be as unconventional as people think she is,” her publisher said in a statement.

In an Interview, Gupta previously discussed with Gulf News that Bollywood is going through a fascinating period for female actors.

“Not only are female characters being discussed, but also the complexities of middle-aged characters. The subjects of films are shifting as a result of a new generation that is more interested in stories than in the character’s age. That’s a good thing,” Gupta said.
Gupta was most recently seen in Netflix’s “Sardar Ka Grandson,” in which she played a 90-year-old grandmother.
