WhatsApp as of late rejected its 15 May cutoff time for users to acknowledge its controversial privacy policy update and said not accepting the terms won’t prompt deleting of accounts. Nonetheless, those WhatsApp clients who don’t acknowledge the new terms beginning today will ultimately experience “restricted functionality” on the application until the refreshed terms are acknowledged. There’ll be issues while accessing the chat list, notifications, and calls.
In case you don’t accept the new policy, then access to chat list within WhatsApp will be restricted after repeated reminders are given. One will not have the option to receive calls or receive notifications. Also, WhatsApp will quit sending messages and calls. The individuals who have enabled the notification on their smartphones will be able to revert back from the notification itself for now.
“Following half a month of restricted functionality, users will not have the option to receive incoming calls or notification and WhatsApp will stop sending messages and calls on your phone. By then, the users will have to choose: either to acknowledge the privacy terms, or they’ll be prevented from using WhatsApp at all,” the organization disclosed to The Guardian in a statement.
If you want to accept the new privacy policy introduced by WhatsApp, you need to tap on the “Agree” option when you log into the application. When you tap agree, you’ll agree to the terms of the new privacy policy. You’ll see a banner, “By tapping AGREE, you accept the new terms and privacy policy.” on the screen.
When WhatsApp introduced this new policy back in January, they gave the users time till 8 February to accept the new terms. However, the company decision faced severe criticism , due to which they had to defer the implementation of the new privacy policy. In addition to this the Indian Government has also intervened and asked WhatsApp to take back the policy.
The information relating to the changes have been vague to the audience leading to distorted information. The policy intends sharing the data with the parent company, that is Facebook. Here, business accounts are concerned. The policy has no effect on end-to end-encryption, which is there in all private chats.
