Vishal Bharadwaj said he never felt like an outsider within the movie industry .

Bollywood filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj has rubbished claims that the Indian movie industry features a toxic working culture or an insider-outsider divide, saying some people having “vested interest” try to malign its image.

Bhardwaj believes that folks within the industry are always there to support one another and for somebody like him, who doesn’t belong to any film family, it’s been a cherishable experience.

The death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput has triggered tons of debates including one among “outsider v/s insider”, with many targeting showbiz for ill-treatment of individuals who don’t have any links within the industry. there’s also an interview about the alleged drug-nexus.

During a virtual news conference of Screenwriters Association (SWA) Awards on Friday, Vishal Bhardwaj in response to an issue posed by PTI said, “I don’t personally feel there’s toxic work culture. i think there’s such a lot love in our work culture. The film unit becomes sort of a complete family. there’s such a gorgeous work culture (here).”

The Haider director said there are people that have “vested interest” and that they try to project cinema as a “toxic” work place.

“I believe all this is often rubbish about toxic working culture. Ours may be a beautiful industry… jo barbad kiya jaa raha hai aajkal uske vested interest kis tarah ke hai sabko malum hai (Ours may be a beautiful industry, which has been ruined thanks to vested interest and that we all realize this).

“And we also know why it’s happening. So please forgive us, leave us on our own. We do good,” he added.

“It has nothing to try to to with insider or outsider. All this is often banai hui bakwas (All this nonsense has been made up). We are sort of a family. I never felt like an outsider within the industry. Whatever little I even have felt, which may happen in the other profession (as well).

“The emotional support that you simply get here, that you simply won’t get in the other work culture. it’s a gorgeous industry, there’s no toxic culture,” he said.

The director, however, is optimistic about the industry regaining its glory as soon as cinema halls open.

“This is one side bowling happening. We are yet to urge to ball because our theaters are closed. those that are abusing are those who go and buy tickets to observe films. Let our Friday come,” he said.

Theaters across the country are closed since March thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.
