Singer Ananya Birla recently released her new single, “Let There Be Love”. The heartful song talks about her experiences during the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
Ananya exposes about what inspired her to write down the only “Let There Be Love”, and her musical journey.
Here are excerpts from the conversation:
Q. When did you write and record “Let There Be Love”?
It was all done during the previous couple of months in lockdown and inspired by everything that’s happening round the world. i used to be alleged to be back in India. It’s tough being faraway from family and friends for therefore long. But that point and space really gave me the chance to specialise in writing and developing new music. the method was different to anything I even have done before because we had to try to to it all remotely. I need to learn such a lot about audio engineering and production which was great.
The pandemic has been such an awful time for therefore many of us round the world, but it’s also been a reminder for us about the items that basically matter – the people in our lives and therefore the love we’ve for them. That’s what it’s all about. the great that also exists in these dark times, and therefore the love and real connections is all that basically matters at the top of the day.
Q. At 26, you’ve got become a worldwide music sensation. How does that feel?
If you told me back once I was doing tiny little open mic nights around London that this is often where i might be a couple of years down the road , I wouldn’t have believed you. But I even have an extended thanks to go.
There aren’t many musicians from India who are working internationally in pop. My aim is to vary that and show the planet that we’ve such a lot more to supply . i actually want to form India, and particularly those fans who are with me since day one, proud with what i’m doing. Last week Sirius Hits picked up my song even before it released. it had been surreal being the primary Indian whom they need supported. to possess them believe me as an artiste has been extremely heartwarming.
Q. How were things once you started your music journey?
I have always felt most comfortable singing in English, perhaps because i feel in English. For me, it had been the foremost natural thanks to express myself.
Back once I started there have been people that said there wasn’t an audience for the type of music I wanted to form , and that they tried to push me into different directions. But my vision was strong, and that i refused to vary for anyone. As soon as i used to be comfortable being unapologetically me, everything started coming together. i’m so glad I stuck thereto which people are enjoying music that’s totally me.
There is such a lot talent in India immediately . we’ve seen amazing artistes from all genres – rap, electro, even ethnic music . All have began to get into the mainstream. it’s really exciting.
Q. Tell us something about your music training.
I actually started learning the santoor round the age of 9. wont to be”> i used to be inspired by my mother who I used to watch play for hours. I still play it today and it’s one among my favourite things to try to to to relax after an extended day. i feel learning it way some time past , helped in my training immensely. once I got a touch older, I taught myself the guitar with YouTube tutorials and began deciding the way to compose too. While i used to be at the University of Oxford, i might head to London hebdomadally and gig round the city.
I am always learning though. one among my favourite things about collaborating with other artistes is that you simply get to ascertain the way they work and devour various things from them.
Q. Are you hospitable Bollywood playback singing?
I love Bollywood. i feel it depends on if I relate to the message of the song.
Q. Has the lockdown helped you write more songs?
I have actually written over 200 songs within the previous couple of months. I converted a bedroom into a makeshift home studio and threw myself into creating with no pressure of a deadline or outcome. This gave me room to experiment and check out out new things. it’s been tough being faraway from home, but i’m glad we were ready to release a song during this point that hopefully can make people feel happy and loved.
