Amul gets legal relief from fraudulent websites
In an order which protects the trademark rights of India’s largest dairy brand Amul, the Delhi supreme court has issued an order restraining fake websites and bank accounts being circulated with domain names either prefixed or suffixed with the name Amul.

The order, which prevents further creation of such fake websites, will curb the menace of online frauds impersonating the Amul brand, GCMMF, which owns the Amul brand, said during a statement today.

Amul sells a variety of dairy products including milk, butter, cheese and ice-cream. The order comes as a relief to the dairy brand, which had approached the court after receiving complaints from people about them being deceived and duped by fake websites which illegally offered Amul dealerships, distributorships and jobs, asking them to deposit amounts ranging anywhere between Rs 25,000 to Rs 10 lakh.

“The fake websites are directed to be blocked and therefore the department of telecom and other government bodies have also been directed to urge access blocked to such websites,” GCMMF’s statement said.

The writ restrains domain registrars including GoDaddy, Name Cheap, Freenom and large Rock from selling or offering domain names with the Amul suffix or prefix in any combination.
